It's getting to that point:
George W. Bush's nominee to run the US Food and Drugs Administration declared on Thursday that the regulator needed to do more to support innovation in the pharmaceutical industry.
Oy. This comes after revelations that Bush's nominee for UN ambassador said "there's no such thing as the United Nations" and "if the U.N. secretary building in New York lost 10 stories, it wouldn't make a bit of difference." Bizzaro world indeed. While stressing the FDA's recently redoubled efforts to ensure drug safety, Lester Crawford, acting head of the agency, argued that its role in protecting consumers had come at the cost of developing new therapies.
The strongly pro drug industry comments came in a written speech to the Economist pharmaceuticals conference in London prepared by Dr Crawford, and provide an insight into his priorities in the build-up to his imminent confirmation hearings.
